There are inexhaustible numbers of activities a person could indulge in. Some pocket friendly and others will leave a pretty dent in your wallet. Here’s a list of a few handpicked favorites;
Adventure:
If you are seeking a mild adrenaline and high excitement, you will love visiting these areas. They mostly need someone who likes to figure out how things work out there.
- Parks; who doesn’t love animals. From the tiny shrews to the mighty elephant. You get to experience the raw magnificence of mother nature’s creations, looking into the eyes of the lion, king of the jungle, in a safari walk or stare at the dead jaws of a shark in a marine park.
- Mountain climbing; ready to break a sweat? Bring out your climbing boots and water bottles. Experience the highs of tectonic plate movements. With dazzling sights from atop the earth roof, there is only excitement and awe. Mountain climbing takes you from your comfort zone and challenges your instincts.
- Treasure hunts; time to get down and dirty. Here your brain needs to be on overdrive looking for clues, deciphering codes and reading maps. Whether it’s an organized event or, if you are lucky, a map found from your great- great-great-great grandfather, treasure hunting electrifies your senses and leaves you smiling in your sleep, that is if you found King Arthur’s sword, but nonetheless it’s the adventure not the gold, right?
- Hot air balloon; the classical “romantic retreat”. Sailing the air majestically over grasslands, lakes and forests with the night lights ahead. The breeze in your hair or you could be bald and your Romeo/Juliet on your side. You could also go on your own and scream, “I’m the king of the world “. Either will leave you breathless and giddy.
Extreme:
For adrenaline-junkies, the above list might be redundant but boy oh boy, you are not forgotten.
- Bungee jumping; who on earth doesn’t enjoy falling and trusting on a cord? No one. This activity will leave your heart thumping hard for half a year but in a good way. After your first jump you will just want one more till the instructors and guards have to haul you out. Your screams will make the howler monkey think it’s been mute all its life. If you have a weak bladder, time to bring out the wet suit.
- Skydiving; now that we are done with a few hundred feet, why not go to the thousands, right? It’s the only logical way. Get into that plane, wait for the signal, kiss the picture on your locket and jump. Be sure to close your mouth, you don’t want a new tenant there. By the time you pull the cord and the huge parachute is open, your heart will wonder why it chose to work for you, your brain will be in love with the open sky and your nerves on the edge.
- Paragliding; now you just love the open air, you secretly think you are a bird in human skin. The augustness of soaring is meant for you and eagles only. You are in love with the sensation of gliding and oh! New tenant, the pesky bugs. You got to keep the mouth closed. Paragliding will imprint its majestic handprint in your soul.
With many other more that will be covered later, these are just some of the outdoor activities to be found out here, but a personal favorite is;
~ ‘Nganya’ exploration; ‘nganya’ is an informal word used in East Africa, especially Kenya, to describe pimped out mini-buses. With graffiti that symbolizes culture, art and celebrates heroes. Loud music and a jovial youth portray the traveling culture. Basically a club on wheels that upon alighting the next ‘nganya’ will see you raise your hand, signaling it to stop.
